Motlow Library move Completed
Library officials at Motlow College have completed moving into a new 12,000 square-foot structure.
Mrs. Warren Broemel librarian, said the addition more than doubles the size of the library. Before it was added the library contained 800 square feet.
Although actual construction of the library was finished several months ago it has taken some time to complete the move.
A large section of “stacks” was moved from the second story of the old library to a portion of the first floor addition.
The audio-visual section was moved from cramped quarters, now used as offices on the first floor to the second story addition.
The check-out desk, periodicals section and a lounge were moved to another new portion on the first floor and the reference books were moved to the former periodicals section.
In addition, a large number of study carrels was added in the former second-story stacks section.
The addition also contains a large multi-purpose room, seating over 200, that will be used for lectures, and was used this year for the first annual Motlow College awards day ceremonies.
MOTLOW LIBRARY – This is the Motlow College library, shown from a staircase leading to the second-story stacks section. At the far right are archways leading to a new section of the library which now houses the check-out that was converted from a stacks area to a study carrel area when the addition was completed. The staircase leads to the audio-visual room in the addition. The glass-walled room it upper right is one of several areas designed for small groups studying together. Below is the reference library in what was formerly the periodicals section.
