New Motlow President Assumes Duties March 1.

Dr. Harry H. Wagner, named Wednesday as the new president of Motlow College, will take over his duties March 1.
He will be on Campus most of the Monday to meet members of the faculty and administration and student leaders, and plans to spend two or three days a week there between now and the time he assumes his duties full-time, a college spokesman said.
As expected, he was formally named Motlow’s new President Wednesday in Nashville at a special meeting of the State Board of Regents.
The board also formally named Dr. Roy S. Nicks as chancellor of the community colleges and regional universities and elected Gov. Ray Blanton as board chairman. Both actions had also been expected.
Dr. C.C. Humphreys, who will retire as chancellor March 15, presented the recommendation of Dr. Wagner by a special search committee, which had been seeking a successor to Dr. Ingram since his appointment as state education commissioner.
He also made a motion that the recommendation be accepted. It was seconded, and Gov. Blanton, who was presiding, announced that he was naming Dr. Wagner to the position “By acclaim”.
Dr. Wagner since 1971 has been vice president of student affairs of Middle Tennessee State University at Murfreesboro. A spokesman for the Board of Regents said it is not yet determined when Dr. Wagner will leave his MTSU post and assume the one at Motlow.
Dr. Don C. England, Motlow’s dean of instruction, has been acting president of the college.
Dr. Wagner, who was present at the session Wednesday, was introduced to the board, as was Dr. Nicks, currently chancellor of the University of Tennessee, Nashville and a former vice president of both U-T and Memphis State University.
The new Motlow president is one of 25 persons who applied for the post. Five of these were chosen and interviewed last Friday in Nashville, and on Monday of this week the search Committee announced that it would recommend Dr. Wagner.
Dr. Wagner is a native of Dunlap and a graduate of Tennessee Tech in Cookeville. He received a master’s degree in physical education and educational administration at the University of Tennessee, and the doctorate in education from Peabody College, Nishville.
He joined the MTSU faculty in 1962 after teaching and coaching at Sequatchie County High School in Dunlap. He was named dean of men in 1967 and administrative assistant to the university president of the following year.
In 1970, he was named president of Martin College at Pulaski, but resigned the following year to return to MTSU as vice president for student affairs.
He and his wife, Nancy, have three daughters.
