4 Trophies Are Won by Motlow Debaters

Six Motlow State College students received four trophies and three certificates at a debate sponsored by Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville last weekend. Motlow Students participating in the debate were Miss Martha McCallie of Winchester, Terry Williams of Tullahoma, Ken – Armbrecht of Estill Springs, Tom Smith of Manchester and Sandra Fanning and Debbie Pittenger of Winchester. Mrs. Warren E. White, an English and speech instructor at Motlow and current president of the Tennessee Intercollegiate Forensic Association, said the trophies were won by Miss Fanning, who placed in first in “beginning affirmative teams” and second in the overall competition for affirmative teams;” by Miss Pittenger and Mr. Williams, who placed third in the “overall negative competition” and Ken Armbrecht, who placed third in the “speaker” competition. Miss Fanning received a certificate for placing second in the “beginning affirmative speaker” competition. Miss McCallie, Miss Fanning, Mr. Armbrecht and Mr. Smith received a certificate for placing third in the “four-man debate team” competition and Mr. Williams received a certificate for placing sixth in the “overall speaker” competition.
