Motlow debaters- The Motlow College debate team has something to smile about, after bringing back an impressive record from the Magnolia Blossom Invitational tournament March 3-4 at Mississippi State College for women. Motlow debaters fare well in tournament
The Motlow College debate team fared well in the Magnolia Blossom Invitational tournament March 304 in Columbus Miss. The contest, hosted by Mississippi State College for Women, included five rounds of debate, and three rounds of individual events including oral interpretation, persuasive speaking and impromptu speaking.
Motlow’s Team No. 1, Eddie Braden and Ken Armbrecht, took wins over the University of Southern Florida at St. Petersburg, the University of Arkansas, and Middle Tennessee State University. Losses fell to Samford University and the University of Southern Florida at Tampa.
Tampa No. 2, Donna Golden and Lee Harbin, defeated Florence State University, Jackson State, and Murray State; but lost to the University of South West Louisiana and Florida State University.
Donna Golden, and Ruth Mitchell earned ratings of “Excellent” in Oral Interpretation, while Lee Harbin captured one of the three “Superior” ratings given in the tournament.
Kent Ervin won ratings of “Good” in Persuasive and Impromptu Speaking.
Those attending from Motlow included Ken Armbrecht, Kent Ervin and Donna Golden of Tullahoma; Ruth Mitchell of Brownington, Eddie Braden of Mcburg; and Lee Harbin of Fayetteville.
The team was accompanied by its sponsor, Mrs. Helen White.
