Motlow takes win over St. Catherine's

Even though the Motlow State Bucks led by 12 points at the half, they had to battle back late in the contest Thursday night to come away with a 76-75 win over St. Catherine's of Kentucky.

The Bucks of Coach Lonnie Thompson improved to 9-8 with the victory.

"In the second half, we pushed our lead to 16 points, said Thompson, in his first year at Motlow. "St. Catherine's was a very athletic team and started hitting threes in the second half. (They sank 13 treys, nine of these in the last 20 minutes.)

"They actually led 73-30 and then we we ahead again and they missed a shot with 2.5 seconds left and we won it. I saw them play the night before at Vol State (in Gallatin) and they shot the ball real well."

Motlow had three players in double figures with 21 by Sparta sophomore Matt Holman being tops for the Bucks. Tullahoma freshman Quincy Crutchfield was second in scoring with 16 points. Dominic Tharpe, freshman from Henry County, had 13 and Jerry Robinson, a sophomore from Hazel Green, Ala., third with 10 points.

The game's top scorer was St. Catherine's D. Smith with 29 points, including seven of 11 3-point goals. Teammates L. Evans had 21 and J. Williams 12.
At the half, Motlow led 44-32. The visitors outscored the Bucks in the final 20 minutes 43-32.
