Distillery gives $25,000 to Motlow
Jack Daniel Distillery has pledged $25,000 to the Motlow College Foundation's Endowment Campaign, according to Dr. A. Frank Glass, Motlow president.
In honor of the company's gift, the faculty/staff dining room, located in the Forrester Student Center, was named Jack Daniel's Dining Room during a recent dedication ceremony.
To date, endowment campaign funds total approximately $550,000. Of that amount, more
than $492,000 is from naming opportunities.
“Jack Daniel Distillery is an avid supporter of Motlow College, and we are proud of its location in Moore County," said Tommy Beam, the distillery's vice president and general manager. "The college and its programs benefit each Moore Countian, either directly or indirectly, by providing quality education and a prepared workforce.”
The distillery was established by its namesake in Lynchburg in 1866 and is now owned by Brown Forman Beverage Worldwide. The distillery has 350 employees on its payroll and ships its products to more than 100 countries around the world. It is the oldest registered distillery in the United States and is toured by thousands of visitors each year.
“Motlow College appreciates the tremendous support that Jack Daniel Distillery has given us over the years,” Glass said. “The company’s support of education in Moore County demonstrates its commitment to the students of today and the workforce of tomorrow.”
Dr. Sam Pate, endowment campaign chairman and president of Sverdrup Technology Inc., stressed the necessity of establishing partnerships between industry and academe. “With technology advancing at such an accelerated pace, it is becoming more and more crucial for industry and education to work together to prepare students to meet the challenges of a changing workplace,” Pate said.
“The Motlow College Foundation appreciates the generosity of Jack Daniel Distillery and its willingness to help us meet that goal and the $5 million goal of the endowment campaign.”
Founded in 1972, the foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt, corporation that provides funds for student scholarships, loans, grants, awards and other college needs. There are 77 trustees representing the 11 counties in Motlow’s service area. Fran Marcum, chairman of the board of Micro Craft Inc., is foundation chairman.
