JACK BATTLE NAMED TO NATIONAL HONOR
Jack Battle, captain of the Motlow State College basketball team in the recently completed season, was named to the honorable mention All American listing of the National Junior College Athletic Association. The NJCAA placed six players each on their teams and 29 on the honorable mention list. “Jack is an All-American,” Coach Joe Daves said. “I’m very happy for him, but I was hoping he would be picked on one of the first three teams. “I really think Jack deserved to be picked on one of the first three. He is a great player. The NJCAA does, however, consider all the players listed as All-Americans.” Battle was named to the all-region team from Tennessee, Mississippi and Kentucky and was on the Region 7 tournament team. He was picked as the most valuable player in the Carpet City Classic in Dalton, Ga., as well as in the eastern division of the Tennessee Junior College Athletic Association. He set the Motlow scoring mark this season with a 22.1 average. For his two seasons Battle scored 1131 points.
