Motlow's men in win, Lady Bucks take loss
CHATTANOOGA Motlow State's Bucks basketball team is 2-0 in Eastern Division play after taking a 70-44 win over Chattanooga State Saturday afternoon.The men's team improved to dating back to a win Dec. 13 11-8 for the season.

But, the women's team was not as as fortunate. The Lady Bucks lost by four points, 69-65, to Chattanooga State. women are 7-11 and 1-1.

Motlow's men limited Chattanooga State to only 18 points during the first 20-minute half while connecting for 31 points, including eight free throws.

In the second half, Motlow outscored its host 39-26, again getting eight free throws with four players finishing in double figures.

John Carter, sophomore from Murfreesboro Riverdale, led the Motlow scoring with 12 points, including a pair of treys. He was followed by a trio with 10 points each: Gerrod Shirey, freshman from Ezell Harding; Jerry Robinson, sophomore from Hazel Green, Ala., and Dominic Tharpe, freshman from Henry County.

Chattanooga State had two in double digits, Marcus Gladden had 14 points and Chris Burks added 10.

Motlow connected 16-of-19 free throw attemps and the losers had 5-of-7, all in the second half.

In the women's contest, Motlow trailed 32-27 at the half, and outscored Chattanooga 38-37 in the second half. But, it wasn't enough to pull down the win.

Motlow had won four in a row prior to Saturday's game,against Jackson State followed (See MOTLOW, Page 3B)

Motlow (Starts on Page 1B) by wins over St. Catherine's, Volunteer State and Roane State.

Four Lady Bucks reached double figures with 17 by Terri Henry, a freshman from Murfreesboro Riverdale. She had the team's only 3-pointer and was three of four at the charity stripe.

Andrea Patterson, Warren County freshman, contributed 13 points; Antonetta Carter, freshman who prepped at Nashville Stratford, had 11 points and Chandra Gipson, freshman from Shelbyville Central, finished with 10.

For Chattanooga, Kinesha Harden led all scoring with 28 points, including 11 from the field and 6-of-9 in free throws. Isha Hicks had 11 points.

The Motlow women hit 24-of-30 free throw attempts while Chattanooga hit 19-of-31.

Motlow played at Hiwassee College in Madisonville last night and then are at home Saturday for a pair of games in the Eastern Division of the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association with Walters State of Morristown. The women play at 2:30 p.m. and the men's game is set for 4:30 p.m.
