Description
Motlow State Community College
Created by an act of the Tennessee legislature in June 1967, Motlow State Community College was built to provide a two-year education opportunity for the residents of the Elk and Duck River areas. The site for the college was donated by the Motlow family of Lynchburg, Tennessee. Dr. Sam H. Ingram was appointed as the college's first President.
The purpose of Motlow State is threefold: (1) To provide a two-year program for the students that will transfer to the four-year institution of their choice, (2) To establish a one or two-year career, or technical program that will enable graduates to find suitable employment upon completion of the program, and (3) To serve the community through an adult program based to community needs and demands.
