Description

TRIFLE
As I sat down to write this verse.
The creative wells went dry; My metaphors got worse and worse
No matter how hard I'd try Perceptions penned by proper poets
of love and bounteous Earth Surpass my talent and I know it. My rhymes have not much worth
If I could say what's in my soul with confidence and with merit,
I'd never bally or be droll. Like Frost I would declare it. But till the time when verse doth flow,
I'll be content to trifle so.

THE MAGIC OF WORDS
A word can make you smile and be happy. A happy word that makes one smile is zephyr. A zephyr is a soft gentle breeze in the woods on a spring day. A zephyr is a soft spoken gentle word whispered in your ear by a special friend. A happy word always brings a smile to your face. A smile is a bright sunny window opening on a cloudy day. A smile is a symbol of ones soul feeling good. A smile is a gift of wealth from God. Your smile is a gift beyond comparison. I hope that when you read this, your smile will blossom into full radiance.

A GOOD COACH
What makes a good coach? Kindness and patience to begin, Love of children to the end. A good coach doesn't scream and yell. He guides and teaches; so the children tell. A good coach knows that the children learn By explanations of rules and taking turns. A good coach is hard to find, And is as precious as a diamond mine.
MY ENGLISH SONNET
Italian- an octave and a sextet First a problem and then it is resolved Shakespearean- three questions then couplet That's how the English sonnet has evolved.

Assonance- repetition of vowel sounds Alliteration - same for consonants Onomatopoeia-how a sound sounds Memorize- until it makes sense.
Cesura- a pause somewhere near center Near fourth, fifth, or sixth syllable of ten Five i ambic feet- a pentameter Rime- not spelled like I learned in school back then.
Can't forget to wear my thinking bonnet There's much more to English than the sonnet.

TEMPORARY
TEMPORARY: The only thing that lasts forever
--So it seems.
It almost has a personality, --as it sniggers in the back of our minds, "BEWARE"
as it flounts it's permanence in our lives.

The owner of loneliness, it cruelly displays
The price we pay if we dare to place expectations on forever.
Shannon Duke

POWER
What is power, I asked; Is it something to be desired
or something to be disdained?
Is knowledge of it required?

Does it come with some instructions?
Can I return it if not pleased?
Does it come with responsibility which can never then be eased?

Is it something that I want
Or something I must take?
Is it always true and real Or is some of it just fake?

If I don't have it, then I want it.
If you give it to me, I shy away.
I'm afraid it comes with strings attached,
Try me another day!

Then comes the thunderous answer
Out from the inner plane,
"Don't think that I would give you it;
It's something you must gain."
