Motlow State Community College

Description

Dr. Sam Ingram
Senator Reagor Motlow
Created by an act of the Tennessee legislature in June 1967, Motlow State Community College was built to provide a two-year education opportunity for the residents of the Elk and Duck River areas. The site for the college was donated by the Motlow family of Lynchburg, Tennessee. Dr. Sam H. Ingram was appointed as the college’s first President.
The purpose of Motlow State is threefold: (1) To provide a two-year program for the students that will transfer to the four-year institution of their choice, (2) To establish a one or two-year career, or technical program that will enable graduates to find suitable employment upton completion of the program, and (3) To serve the community through an adult program based on community needs and demands.
The school opened in September 1969 with approximately 500 students and now has an enrollment of over 900 students. An expected enrollment of over 1,000 for the 1972-73 school year will increase Motlow’s communication and service to the people in the surrounding community.
