The gymnasium in Nisbett Center at Motlow College was officially named the Copperweld Arena during the recent homecoming festivities at the college. Participating in the dedication ceremony are, from left, Dr. A. The Fayetteville Division of Copperweld Corp. recently contributed 60,000 to the Motlow College Foundation’s 5 million endowment campaign., according to Dr. A. Frank Glass, Motlow President.
In honor of the company’s gift, an endowment has been designated the Copperwell Endowment, and the basketball arena in Nisbett Center has been named the Copperweld Arena.
An official ceremony recognizing Copperweld and its generosity to the college was held during recent homecoming festivities. During the ceremony, the letters designating the gymnasium as the Copperweld Arena were unveiled.
“We are glad to contribute to the endowment campaign,” said John D. Turner, Copperweld corporate president. “Copperwell has supported Motlow College for several years because of our belief in the need for partnerships between industry and education. Such partnerships between industry and education. Such partnerships are vital to the education of a progressive workforce.”
Al Smith, corporate vice president for operations and Fayetteville plant manager, said of the company’s gift, “Copperweld is proud to have the Fayetteville Teaching Site in Lincoln County, and we will do all we can to support the college and its programs. Giving to the endowment campaign is one way for us to offer that support.”
Copperweld, with corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pa., is the world’s largest producer of bimetallic wire and strand products for cable TV, telephone, electronic, electric utility, and other applications, according to Smith. The operation has been located in Fayetteville since 1975.
